Abstract

A wheel hub and bearings for a cycle. It has a free axle (1) which is carried in ball bearings (2, 3). The bearing inner races are pressed on to the shaft and the outer races are housings on the hub (4) and pressed against a shoulder. A force (P1) (P2) is exerted on the inner races by a stop device, which can be adjustable and locked to limit play. The bearing (3) has balls in radial contact and the ball tracks have a radius larger than that of the balls. Alternatively, a bearing with oblique ball contact can be used. The arrangement gives less play than using cage tupe bearings.
