Abstract
A lead-base alloy suitable for use in the construction of the grids of lead-acid storage batteries has the following composition: Sn 0.5-3.0 per cent, As 0.2-0.5 per cent, Ag 0.05-0.35 per cent, Pb and impurities the balance. The alloy may be produced by adding an appropriate quantity of "tin solder" (a 50-50 or 60-40 mixture of lead and tin) to molten lead, then adding a lead-arsenic alloy containing 1-2 per cent of arsenic and finally adding either solid silver shot or a lead-silver alloy containing 1-5 per cent of silver. The alloy is then heated to 950 DEG F., stirred to provide a uniform alloy melt and cast. U.S.A. Specification 2,694,628 is referred to.
