Abstract
812,310. Concrete building structures; girders; floors. HENDERSON, A. March 5, 1957, No. 7234/57. Class 20(4) In a reinforced concrete building structure, continuous girders 13 extend completely across a number of columns 10 provided with means for supporting the girders, and each girder has a vertical web, one face of which abuts the outer vertical faces of the columns, and oppositely directed upper and lower flanges 14, 15, the flanges 14 extending between the columns, and the flanges 15 projecting outwardly. As shown, the upper flanges 14 of the Z-section girders rest on brackets 11 cast integrally with the columns and having embedded therein dowel pins 12 over which are fitted sections 16 of pipe embedded in the flanges. The flanges 15 are slit at 15a to prevent warping of the girders through uneven shrinkage. Floor or roofing slabs 17 are supported on the flanges 15. In modifications, (a) the girders 20 are of double-Z form and have central holes through which the columns extend, the webs 21, Fig. 4, of the girders resting on ledges 22 formed on the columns, and (b) the flanges 14 extend between the columns and the webs and lower flanges are continuous, the girders being secured by bolts passing through the columns.
