Abstract

812,284. Door operating devices. METAL SECTIONS Ltd. Oct. 18, 1956 [Nov. 3, 1955], No. 31408/55. Class 65(1) A door 1, particularly for an aircraft hangar, is pivotally mounted at the mid points of its sides on slide blocks 2 encircling vertical guide rods 4. It is moved bodily upwards by power operated cables 16 attached to the slide blocks. A roller 6 at the top of the door co-operates with the guide flanges 7a, 7b, to guide the door top horizontally rearwards as the door is raised by the cables which are wound on to a drum 15 driven by the electric motor 11 through gearing 14. Hydraulic power means may be used in place of the electric motor. Single or mutiple compression springs 8 encircling the guide rods, disposed between the slide blocks and the fixed structure and shrouded in telescopic tubes 9, 10 assist in the raising of the door and cushion its descent. In a modification wherein a plurality of doors are disposed side by side, the slide blocks have extensions carrying rollers engaging vertical guideways in a door post.
