Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula R4(-(CH2)n1-CONHNH2)a, wherein a is 1 or 2, n1 is zero, 3, 4 or 5 and, when a is 1, R4 is <FORM:0811816/IV (b)/1> or, when a is 2, R4 is <FORM:0811816/IV (b)/2> and their preparation by heating hydrazine hydrate with the appropriate methyl or ethyl ester, in alcohol solution or without solvents. Examples describe the preparation of L-3-acetyl-4-thiazolidine-carboxylic acid hydrazide and the corresponding sulphone, L-2-n-propyl-3-acetyl-4-thiazolidine-carboxylic acid hydrazide and the corresponding 2-phenyl compound, 2 - piperidone - 6 - carboxylic acid hydrazide, gamma - (2 - carboxy - 3 - indolyl) - butyric acid dihydrazide, 2 - imidazolone - 4 - carboxylic and -4-valeric acid hydrazides and 2-imidazolidone-4-caproic and -4-valeric acid hydrazides by the process of the invention. The sulphone of L-3-acetyl-4-thiazolidine-carboxylic acid methyl ester is prepared by oxidation, with H2O2 in glacial acetic acid, of L-3-acetyl-4 - thiazolidine - carboxylic acid methyl ester, itself prepared by acetylation of L-4-thiazolidinecarboxylic acid methyl ester. L-2-n-propyl-3-acetyl - 4 - thiazolidine - carboxylic acid methyl ester is similarly prepared from L-2-n-propyl-4-thiazolidine-carboxylic acid methyl ester, itself prepared via the hydrochloride by esterification of the parent acid with HCl-saturated methanol; and the corresponding 2-phenyl compounds are prepared similarly.
