Abstract

1- (2 ;4 ;6- Trichlorophenyl)- 3- npentadecyl-5-pyrazolone is prepared by refluxing 2 ;4 ;6-trichlorophenyl hydrazine with ethyl 3-keto-stearate in ethyl alcohol containing 5 drops of acetic acid. Sodium ethoxide is then added and refluxing continued. Instead of ethyl 3-keto-stearate, ethyl 3-keto-myristate or ethyl 3-keto-arachidate may be used to give respectively the corresponding 3-n-undecyl or 3-n-heptadecyl-5-pyrazolones. The following pyrazolones are similarly prepared from the appropriate halogenated phenyl hydrazine and 3-keto ester: 5-(2 : 4 : 5-trichlorophenyl)-3-n-pentadecyl (or 3-n-heptadecyl)-5-pyrazolone, 1- (2 : 4- dichlorophenyl)- 3- npentadecyl- 5-pyrazolone and 1-(2 : 5 (or 6)-dichlorophenyl)-3-n-heptadecyl-5-pyrazolone.
