[Also in Group XXV] A fastener, e.g. a bolt or rivet, comprises a shank A, Fig. 1, with a head B, at one end, having a work-engaging face 20 containing a channel 15 for a seal ring D of rubber or the like. A disc E, e.g. of polytetrafluoroethylene, is provided between the ring and the base of the channel to slide relatively to the head, when the fastener is tightened, and protect ring D from damage. In a modification, the ring D<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 4, is of tubular resilient metal and is suitable for fasteners subject to high-temperatures, and the disc E (not shown) may be of metal.
