Abstract
811,553. Electromagnetic relays. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. (Fabbrica Apparecchiature per Comanicazioni Electriche Standard S.p.A.). July 5, 1957, No. 21383/57. Class 38 (5). The armature of an electromagnetic relay is mounted in a sealed chamber by means which engage the walls of the chamber. Fig. 3a shows the type of relay to which the invention may be applied, with adjustable poles 21 ... 24 on each side of the sealed chamber and at each end of the armature which is surrounded by an energizing coil 25. In Fig. 1 a glass chamber 9 has terminals 8, 17, 18 sealed in its ends, a resilient metal cylinder 2 split so as to be sprung against the chamber walls with tags 11 connected to the terminal 8. A further tag 3 is riveted at 12 to the magnetic armature 1 at about its centre and the armature carries contacts 6, 7 for alternatively engaging the terminals 18, 17. In Figs. 4 and 6 a resilient non-magnetic strip 29 attached to the terminal 31 is clamped between two resilient channels whose side press against the walls of the chamber 26. Two sector-section magnetic bars 27, 28 are riveted at 40, 41 at their centres to the strip 29 with magnetic spacers 38, 39 in between. The moving contact 30 is on the end of the strip 29 and an elastic insert 42 (preferably of silicone rubber) acts as a contact buffer. In Figs. 8 and 11 the rivets 40, 41 also attach a resilient ring 47 which surrounds the armature assembly and has hemispherical projections 48 on each side which engage the walls of the chamber and allow the armature to pivot relative thereto. The contact buffer is formed by springs 44, 45 and the other end of the strip 29 is located in the chamber by springs 50, 51.
