Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:0811522/IV (b)/1> wherein R is an alkyl or cycloalkyl group, preferably an alkyl group of 3-5 carbon atoms, for example a branched chain alkyl group or an n-butyl group. The compounds are made by condensing a reactive derivative of p-toluene sulphonic acid such as a halide or ester with a 2-alkyl - 5 - amino - 1:3:4 - thiadiazole preferably in the presence of an acid-binding agent such as pyridine. In an example the method for the preparation of 2-substituted-5-p-toluenesulphonyl amino-thiadiazoles in which R is a methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, isopropyl, n-butyl, isobutyl, sec. - butyl, tert. - butyl, n - amyl, n-hexyl, cyclohexyl and n-heptyl group is described in detail.ALSO:Sulphonamides having hypoglycaemic action comprise compounds of the formula <FORM:0811522/VI/1> wherein R is an alkyl or cycloalkyl radical (see Group IV (b)). For test purposes the drugs are administered to rabbits orally in suspension in gum acacia.
