Abstract

811,081. Linkwork. ALBISWERK ZURICH A.G. Jan. 18, 1957 [Feb. 22, 1956]. No. 1995/57. Class 80 (3). [Also in Group XL (c)] The mechanical transmission system producing oscillation of a radar aerial reflector 3 includes a hydraulic coupling comprising cylinder 25 longitudinally movable in stationary housing 24 and double-acting piston 26 fixed to piston rod 23 to whose flange are connected rods 21 of two crank drives each of which includes an eccentric 20. Two gear-boxes 2 are provided one on each side of central housing 1 the latter being full of oil. Stationary shaft 9 extends through the gear-boxes and has ball bearings 10 in each gear-box in which are mounted disc 11 with balancing weights 14 to eliminate vibration and rim gear 12 engaging toothed segment 13 fixed to shaft 5. When driving motor 15 is running cylinder 25 is closed and the piston forms a rigid connection with it. Relief valves (see Fig. 2, not shown) are arranged in the piston rod to limit the power transmitted. Control valves break the rigid hydraulic connection so that the reflector automatically returns to its central position when the motor is switched off. The reflector is locked in this position by member 58 operated by control valve piston 48 and damped by dash-pot 63.
