Classes 20(4) and 87(1) A wall structure for buildings, simulating conventional brickwork, masonry, &c. is formed of a number of overlapping units arranged on horizontal components 2 and a waterproof sheet 14 interposed between the overlapping surfaces. The units which may be slabs or tiles are mounted by the engagement of extensions 1 on the top rear edge over the horizontal components or timber battens 2 fixed to vertical members 3 of a building framework which may be of timber, steel or reinforced concrete, preformed, drilled, ridged or grooved to correctly position the members 2. The panel which may be made of mouldable material such as concrete, asbestos, clay, &c. has a lower panel 4 and an upper panel 5 each lying in a vertical plane offset from each other and connected by a thickened neck 6 and are hung so that the panels 4 in one row overhang the panels 5 of the row below. The surface of each panel 4 is formed with grooves 7 arranged to give normal brick dimensions and the edges are recessed at 21, 22 to give continuity of the groove dimensions on assembly. The grooves and recesses on the assembled surfaces are pointed as at 23 to complete the appearance of continuous brickwork, the panel joints being obscured. The units 4, 5 are retained in position on the battens 2 by clips either formed from a single piece of wire as shown in Fig. 5, or of sheet metal with perforated horizontal parts in place of the arms, the pointed ends 12 being driven into the battens 2. The arms 11 of the clip pass over recesses 13 in the panels as shown and the loops 8 serve to retain the waterproof sheet 14, the upper ends of which are fixed to the front surfaces of the battens 2. The joints between the panels are sealed by a metal angle member 15 attached by copper tacks 16 and plus 17 to the neck portion 6, mastic 18 being forced in the space provided. In modifications, Fig. 4 (not shown), the angle member 15, tacks 16 and plugs 17 are omitted from a a sealed joint, Fig. 6 (not shown), the pointed ends 12 of the retaining clip are replaced by loops through which nails are driven to secure the clip in position. Fig. 8 (not shown), illustrates the member 15 and in Fig. 9 (not shown), a modification of this member used for right angled corners is shown.
