Class 97(1) A corneal contact lens has its inner face curved to a greater extent than the cornea so as to have contact with the eye only at the periphery of the lens, the latter being provided around its edge with a plurality of spaced circularly contained recesses constituting tear and air passages-the contact between eye and lens taking place between the said recesses. As shown, the concavo convex meniscus 1 has an outer surface 2 and an inner surface 3 of curvature greater than that of the cornea. Provided around the edge 5 and in the face 3 are inwardly extending recesses 4 through which air and fluid may pass and which terminate radially inwards from the area of contact between lens and eye.
