809,821. Waterproofing. SPOONER DRYER & ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Aug. 3, 1955 [Aug. 13, 1954], No.23516/54. Class 140. A method of polymerizing of resins on material such as textile fabrics or paper includes the steps of moving the material along a given path and first heating the material to near to the resin polymerization temperature by directing on to the material perpendicularly or at a substantial angle high velocity streams of a heated gaseous medium and then holding the material at or above said polymerization temperature for an extended period of time by surrounding the heated material with an atmosphere of slowly moving heated gaseous medium. In an illustrated embodiment a heating chamber 1 is disposed adjacent to a hot chamber 2. Material to be treated enters chamber 1 at 3, passes over rollers 4 and enters chamber 2 at 9. Air in chamber 1 is circulated by a fan 5 being passed through a heater 6 and through distribution ducts to nozzles such as 7 from which it issues in the form of jets to impinge upon the moving material. Steam enters and leaves the heater 6 through pipes 8. In chamber 2 the material passes over a series of rollers 10 and leaves the chamber at 11. Air in chamber 2 is circulated by fan 12, being withdrawn from the chamber through slots 20 and returned through heaters 14 and distributing ducts to nozzles 13. The rollers in both chambers may be power-driven.
