Abstract

809,630. Carding machines. RIETER & CIE, J. J. A. G. Feb. 5, 1957 [Feb. 9, 1956], No. 3933/57. Class 120(1) A carding machine has flats 15 in which the head 9 is provided with a portion 10 resting on and conforming with the usual stationary slide surface 14, and chain support means removably connected with the head 9 and projecting laterally therefrom beyond surface 14. As shown, chain 13 is supported on a screw 11 through a bushing 16 which is held against rotation by engagement of a rectangular flange on the bushing with a corresponding recess 18 in head 9, to avoid loosening of the screw during operation of the machine. The positioning of chain 13 outside the flat and surface 14 allows the flat to be removed upwardly after removal of screw 11. Also, the moment M produced by the force A exerted by the chain and the reaction B does not, as in the usual arrangement, tend to bend the flat so that the carding surfaces are pressed together.
