Abstract
808,698. Binding-posts. MODREY, H. J. April 12, 1955 [May 3, 1954], No. 29976/57. Divided out of 808,697. Class 38 (1). A terminal 1 has a hollow shank 3 filled with explosive 4 which is detonated to expand the shank and secure the terminal in an insulating board 6. A socket terminal 12 is shown in Fig. 3. If the panel is of metal, an insulating eyelet is provided round the terminal (Fig. 5, not shown). An eyelet 24 may be provided on the end of a wire 23 and the eyelet secured to the terminal by the expansion of the shank 3. The terminal may be a hermetically sealed one for a condenser can (Fig. 7, not shown), in which case solder is provided between the terminal and the can which is melted by the heat of the explosion. In the embodiment of Fig. 8 a groove coated with solder is provided in the terminal and heat applied to the terminal with a soldering iron 30 which solders a wire end 28 in the groove and explodes the charge 4, the heat of the explosion assisting in soldering the wire. In the embodiment of Fig. 10 a ring 33 co-operates with a groove 32 in the terminal to secure a wire 35 when the charge is exploded, a wire end 28 being secured in a groove, as before. In the embodiment of Fig. 13 the charge 4 is packed in an outer bore of the terminal and the wire end 58 inserted in an inner bore, the relative strengths of the walls being such that the outer wall is forced outwards on explosion of the charge to secure the terminal in the panel and the inner wall inwards to secure the wire lead.
