Abstract

808,539. Discharge apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 21, 1956 [Nov. 24, 1955], No. 35609/56. Class 39(1). A getter holder comprises an annular metal strip carrying a number of getter pills, each being positioned on a flat part of the strip, the strip between adjacent pills being bent so that each pill-carrying section is at an angle (i.e. not parallel) with the axis of the annulus. Fig. 3 shows such an annular strip, the parts 1a remaining cylindrical, the parts 1c being sharply bent so that the various parts 1c, each containing a getter pill 2, are flattened and inclined at the same angle to the axis of the strip. The getter is mounted in the neck of a cathode-ray tube so that on firing by h-f heating, it deposits along the neck in the direction of the screen. Fig. 3 has six pills. Fig. 6 shows an arrangement with ten pills, in which the facets containing the pills extend in one of two directions alternately, forming the bases of two rows of pyramids having alternate apices P<SP>1</SP>, P<SP>2</SP>. The arrows indicate the directions in which the vapour issues.
