Abstract

808,460. Shearing, punching. WEAN EQUIPMENT CORPORATION. March 4, 1957 [March 14, 1956], No. 7067/57. Class 83 (4). In order to accurately locate a continuously advancing strip being cut into sheets by flying shears, a locating hole is formed on the feed side of the blades as the blades make each cut, and a locating means moving with and connected to the shears enters the hole to position the leading end of the strip as each cut is made. The blades 3, 4 are shaped to make an irregular cut as shown in Fig. 6 to form sheets shaped to minimize waste when the sheet is subsequently punched to produce circular blanks 8 and the locating holes 10 are punched in portions of the sheet that are waste. The lower blade 4 is supported by links 16 pivoted on a fixed axis 17 and guided at their upper ends 18 in vertical guides in a frame 15 carrying the upper blade 3 and the punches 20. Eccentrics 13, 14 move the frame 15 through a circular path and so effect shearing. Arms 22, 23 connected to the upper and lower blade carriers 47, 48 carry tapered locating pins 26 and co-operating bushes 30 adjustable along the arms. The pins 26 before each cut is made pass through the holes 10 in the strip and into the bushes 30. The strip is fed by rollers 31 which may be driven from the shaft 12 of the eccentric 14, the upper roller being raised by a lever 35 actuated by the blade carrier 47 just after the pins 26 enter the holes 10. The severed sheets are carried away at a higher speed than the feed by three parallel moving belts 45. Strippers may be provided for the punches 20 and locating pins 26.
