Abstract

1,004,954. Shearing. SOC. NOUVELLE SPIDEM. July 19, 1963 [Aug. 3, 1962], No. 28606/63. Heading B3W. A flying shear for corrugated strip comprises a cutter-carrying carriage which is driven by the sheet itself, through means which control the carriage so that it accelerates uniformly from rest to the speed of the strip, the said means comprising two pairs of pivoted links, the central point of each pair of links having a roller which co-operates with a cam. The apparatus comprises a cutter frame 1 adapted to move on guides 2-2<SP>1</SP>, and connected by rods 11-11<SP>1</SP> to an adjustable stop 9. The connection between the rods and the carriage includes two pairs of links 12, 13 and 12<SP>1</SP>, 13<SP>1</SP>, and each linkage carries at its junction a roller 14 which runs in a cam-slot 15, of such a shape that the acceleration of the carriage, when the stop 9 is engaged by the leading end of the strip 23, is uniform. The carriage is returned to its starting position by jacks 16, 16<SP>1</SP>. The moving shear blade 7 is actuated by a pneumatic cylinder 6 which is connected to the blade and the frame by toggle links 3, 4 an 3<SP>1</SP>, 41, so that for a single stroke of the cylinder the cutter makes a complete cycle. The cut is initiated by a contact 24 positioned on the straight part of one of the cams 15. The sheet is supported by rollers 21, 21<SP>1</SP> which are retracted after the cut to allow the sheet to fall. The cut sheets are moved up to a stop 20 by a blade 25 actuated by a jack 18.
