A wheel braking system for aircraft having main and emergency sources of fluid pressure 2, 21, a brake-actuating mechanism 19, 20, for each wheel operated through a brake-operating mechanism 5, either from said main or emergency source, and automatic braking apparatus 12 having an inlet 11, outlet 44 and exhaust connection 47 associated with each brake-actuating mechanism, and comprising a main fluid pressure line 10 connecting said brake-operating valve mechanism with the inlet connection 11, of said automatic braking apparatus, a second fluid pressure line 44 connecting the outlet connection through a normally spring-opened shuttle valve 14 with the brake actuating mechanism 19, 20 has an emergency fluid pressure line 22 adapted to connect said brakeoperating valve mechanism through a second normally spring-closed shuttle valve 23 and through the first shuttle valve 14 with said brake-actuating mechanism.
