Class 146(3) [Also in Group XVII] A device for dispensing rodlike articles, particularly pencil leads, comprises a container for holding a plurality of pencil leads, an ejector whereby one lead at a time may be projected from the container and a yieldable lead stop at one end of the container which normally holds the leads therewithin, but is moved to an open position by contact with a lead which is being ejected from or injected into the container. The container 10 has end walls 13, 14 and side walls 11, 12. A cover 26 is supported by rests 15, 16, 16<SP>1</SP> at the ends of the container and forms the upper side of a slot 17 in the wall 11. The cover is reversible and has spacing elements such as 32, on one face so that when that face is downwards space is provided for thicker leads. Pressure-sensitive tapes at each end of the cover pass round the ends of the container 10 and secure the cover thereto. The end wall 13 is apertured at 23 and a disc 21 is biased by a spring 22 housed in a recess in the cover-rest 15 to a position where it normally closes the aperture. The ejector 25 is slidably engaged in the slot 17, and is operable from outside the case. Leads 35<SP>1</SP> are placed in the container between the rests 15, 16 before the cover is put on, the ejector 25 being positioned in a recess 24. To eject a lead the ejector is slid to the left as seen in Fig. 8 so that a notch therein engages the end of a lead and forces it out of the aperture 23, the disc 21 being pushed back against the bias of the spring 22. The protruding end of the lead may then be gripped in the collet 37 of a lead holder.
