Abstract

888,012. Roll holders. PENNY, E. July 15, 1958 [July 24, 1957], No. 23385/57. Class 18. A toilet roll holder has means for storing a spare roll and means for preventing removal of the spare roll or of the roll which is in use. The spare roll is inserted in an opening 15 and deflects spring loaded flaps 20 which then engage stops 23, it also engages a flap 25 on a lid 12 so that the lid cannot be opened with the roll in its inoperative position. Spring fingers 17 support the spare roll. The roll which is in use is supported against rollers 18 and when exhausted is withdrawn between the rollers. In a modification one of the rollers is movable in a slot in each end wall 10 to facilitate removal. In a further modification a hole is provided in one end wall for the withdrawal of the exhausted roll. A hole 24 enables the spare roll to be pushed down to replace the exhausted roll. A catch 31 can then be moved to release the lid by access through a further hole 30 which is normally covered by the spare roll. Instead of a lid, resilient fingers may extend partially across the opening 15 and allow the insertion of a roll but prevent its removal. Provision may be made for more than one roll. According to the Provisional Specification, the holder can be in two halves adjustable laterally to accommodate rolls of different lengths.
