The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in toilet paper roll holders, and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth. a device of this character which is adapted to contain a reserve stock or supply of paper in position for convenient use.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide a holder of the aforementioned character comprising novel means for removing 'the rolls one at a time from the reserve stock as they are needed and for supporting said rolls in a manner to facilitate the removal of the paper therefrom.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a toilet paper roll holder of the character described which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly efilciefit and reliable in use, compact, attractive in appearance and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a toilet paper roll holder constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a view in front elevation of the lower portion of the device.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view, taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a detail view of the roll withdrawing and supporting tongs.
Figure 5 is a cross-sectional view, taken substantially on-the line 5-5 of Figure 4.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a magazine of suitable material which is designated generally by reference numeral l. The magazine I is for the reception of a stack or column of rolls of toilet paper 2.
The magazine I is adapted to be secured inany suitable manner in a convenient location on a wall or other support and said magazine comprises a back 3, side walls I, a front 5 and a rearwardly inclined bottom 8, said bottom being located above the lower ends of the back 3 and the side walls 4. The front lterminates, at its lower end, a substantial distance above the bottom 6 for providing a sufflciently large opening for the discharge of the rolls 2. This is shown to aclvantage in Figure 3 of the drawings.
Above-the bottom I the side walls 4 have extending thereinto from their front edges recesses I the purpose of which will be presently set forth. Extending into the side walls 4 from the front edges thereof below the bottom 3 are notches I.
The notches I are formed to provide horizontal shoulders I, the purpose of which will also be presently set forth.
Journaled in the side walls 4 immediately below the front edge of the bottom 8 and above the shoulders 3 is a rod or shaft 3. Fixedon the 'shaft 3 is a bar II. A pair of tongs II is mountcated openings I in the paper rolls 2. These.
end portions of the arms l2 are further provided with finger openings II for convenient operation.
It is believed that the operation of the device will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briefly, the bottom 6 supports the stack of' paper rolls 2 in the magazine I, from which rolls the usual wrappers have been removed before said magazine is loaded. To remove the lowermost ro l 2, the tongs I l are opened and swung upwardly and rearwardly into the recesses I. the spindles i5 clearing th ends of said lowermost roll. The tongs l I are then closed for engaging the fingers I! in the openings It in the lowermost roll 2. Thi is illustrated in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings. of either of the arms I! actuates the other of said arms. The tongs II are then swung forwardly and downwardly in a manner to pull the lowermost roll 2 out of the magazine I. When this occurs the rolls remaining in the magazine drop downwardly by gravity-and are supported by the bottom 6. When the tongs II are swuns' outwardly, the bar l0 enters the notches 'l' and engages beneath the shoulders 3 for supporting said tongs in a substantially horizontal position with a roll of paper therein, as suggested in broken lines in Figure 1 of the drawings. The roll of paper thus supported is adapted to rotate or turn freely on the fingers or spindles l5. When another roll of paper is desired the foregoing operation i repeated. When the tongs Ii are in Operation of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:
l. A toilet paper roll holder of the character,
described comprising a magazine for the reception of a stack of paper rolls, said magazine having a discharge opening therein for the rolls, ,.and a pair of tongs mounted for swinging movement on the magazine, said tongs being engageable in zinc for the reception of a stack oi paper rolls, a member mounted for swinging movement on the magazine, said magazine having a discharge opening therein adjacent said member, and a pair of tongs mounted on the member and engageable in the lowermost roll for withdrawing same from the magazine and for rotatably supporting said lowermost roll exteriorly of said magazine.
3. A toilet paper roll holder of the character described comprising a magazine for the reception of a stack of rolls or paper, said magazine having a discharge opening for said rolls in its lower portion, a bar mounted for swinging movement on the magazine below the discharge open- 15 ing, a pair of tongs mounted on said bar, said tongs including angular arms operatively connected together, and spindles on said arms engageable in thelowerm'ost roll for withdrawing s'aidlowermost roll from the magazine, and means the lowermost roll for withdrawing same from 20 on the-magazine engageable by the bar for supthe magazine and for rotatably supporting said lowermost roll exteriorly of said magazine.
2. A toilet paper roll holder comprising a magaporting the arms in extended position.
