808,033. Mining machines. CROUCHER, A. N. Nov. 13, 1957 [Nov. 13, 1956], No. 34680/56. Class 68(1). A plough type mining machine having rotating eccentric weights to impart a reciprocating force to the plough cutting ends. A vibrator unit Fig. 1 (not shown) at the centre of the plough frame contains a central shaft 8 carrying a gear wheel 9 meshing with two pinions 10 one on each of the shafts to which eccentric weights 11 are attached. Each weight 11 drives a similar weight 14 through a pair of gears 12 or 13. The drive to the unit is obtained by running the haulage rope over a pulley connected to the shaft 8 by an epicyclic step up gear unit. The direction of the reciprocating force due to the eccentric weights can be altered by rotating the whole vibrator unit within the framework of the plough. In a modlification the vibrator unit is driven by an air or electric motor.
