Abstract
628,422. Wave and tide motors. PATRICK, H. H. Aug. 27,1947, No. 23703. [Class 69 (i)] A wave or tide motor comprises a wheeled bogey 1, having a centrally disposed transverse screen, which due to the impact of the waves on the screen is caused to run to and fro along rails 2. The motion of the bogey rotates a shaft 14 owing to ropes 7 being secured to the bogey and passing around pulleys 6, secured on the seaward side of the bogey, and to drums 8 on a shaft 9 and then back to the bogey. The drive between the shafts 9 and 14 is due to bevel gear wheels 15, 16 and 17, pawls 18 secured to the wheels 16, 17 and ratchet wheels 19 secured on the shaft 9. A flywheel 20 is provided on the shaft 14, which may drive electrical generators, air compressors or further lines of shafting. Each rope 7 is tensioned by an engaging roller 10a of an adjustably loaded carriage 13.
