A flow governor for maintaining the flow of a gaseous medium at a preselected value comprises a cylindrical casing 2 with diametrically opposed inlet and outlet 3 and 4 respectively and a rotatable throttling means 5 concentrically journalled within the casing by means of two stub shafts 6 and 7. The throttling means has an arcuate throttling member provided with a cam-shaped member 8 on its effective throttling edge which varies the outlet opening 4. A flat spiral spring 9 has one end fastened to the throttling means at 14 and its other end to end 15a of a lever 15 which is journalled about the shaft 6. In operation the lever 15 is set to a predetermined position according to the flow rate required, this locates the position of the throttling means via the action of spring 9 and any differing pressures then occurring on the two sides of the cam-shaped member 8 cause a resultant pressure tending to open or close the throttling member to maintain the preselected flow rate through the outlet. The cam-shaped member 8 may be made of a porous sounddeadening material, and further sound damping may be provided by placing a disc 11 and a plurality of metal balls 13 between the two spaced walls 10, 12 at one end of the throttling means. Ribs 16, 17 and 18, 19 are provided for securing the casing 2 in a suitable ducting.
