Abstract
807,702. Welding by fusion. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. March 18, 1957 [March 27, 1956], No. 8782/57. Class 83 (4). In a welding torch for gas-shielded metal arc welding in which shielding gas is fed through a tube 37 to a gas nozzle 23 at one end of the torch and the electrode is fed through a bushing 43 at the other end to pass into the guide and contact tube 31, shielding gas is bled through an orifice in the wall of the gas tube 37 to a chamber 529 between the bushing 43 and the guide and contact tube 31, so preventing air passing with the electrode to the guide and contact tube 31. The torch which, as shown, is for automatic use is water-cooled. In a modification the torch is in the form of a manual welding gun.
