Abstract

900,974. Arc torches. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. Aug. 19, 1958 [Aug. 28, 1957], No. 27175/57. Class 39 (3). [Also in Group XXII] A constricted arc torch consists of a hollow body 2 to which is detachably secured a nozzle 16 defining with the body 2 passages 11 for cooling- fluid, a non-consumable electrode 3 projecting into a narrow passage 14 in the nozzle 16 and a secondary electrode for ionizing the gas entering the nozzle. The nozzle 16 constitutes the secondary electrode and is of copper with a protective facing 21 of alumina or zirconia surrounding the passage 14 and applied as described in Specification 813,660. The electrode 3 is of stepped form as described in Specification 875,816. High frequency current is conveyed to the nozzle 16 by one or both of the cooling fluid connections 7, 8. Specification 872,726 also is referred to.
