1,063,902. Welding by fusion. ZENTRALINSTITUT FUR SCHWEISSTECHNIK DER DEUTSCHEN DEMOKRATISCHEN REPUBLIK. March 26, 1964, No. 12952/64. Heading B3R. In automatic non-consumable electrode inert gas shielded arc welding in which the electrode is connected to the negative pole of a controllable welding generator, while the work is connected to the positive pole and the gas nozzle 1s connected through a variable resistance to the positive pole, the power differential between the main and pilot arc circuits is adjusted to such a low value that the running- out distance is kept to between 0.05 and 0À1 mm. The running-out distance is the distance traversed from the end of the work before the main arc extinguishes. The torch used is water-cooled, has an axially adjustable pointed electrode and a replaceable nozzle tip.
