Abstract
806,000. Hatch beams. LIVSEY, D. M. (Aluminium-Walzwerke Singen G.m.b.H.). Aug. 15, 1957, No. 25816/57. Class 113. A method of manufacturing a hatch beam wherein an I-shaped beam of aluminium alloy is tapered by cutting a wedge-shaped piece out of the ends of the beam and either bending the flanges together and welding or welding anglesections on either side of the lower part of the main web. In Fig. 3 the end of the I-section beam has a wedge-shaped portion cut out from its web 7, and the lower flange 5 together with the lower part of the web is bent towards the upper flange 2 and welded at 1. Alternatively a triangular portion including a portion of the lower flange may be removed. In Fig. 4 the shaped ends of the web 7 are reinforced by angle sections 8, one on each side of the web.
