Abstract
805,948. Control systems for vehicle lamps supplied from two or more sources. HOLLINS, J. R. May 15, 1956 [May 26, 1955], No. 15111/56. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XXXVI] In order that a trailer having lamps 50 operating at 6 volts may be coupled to either a tractor operating at 6 volts or one operating at 120 volts, each pin 21 of the plug connector 20 is connected in series with a change-over switch, normally biased to the position shown, and a resistance 45 of appropriate value, the socket of the tractor operating at 6 volts being provided with a collar 14 carrying a pin 15 which engages pin 35 thus causing arm 30 to swing switch arm 40 to engage contacts 42, 46 and shunt out the resistance 45. The socket of the 12 volt tractor carries no collar so that the resistance 45 remains in series in the load circuit. The earth pin 22 and socket contact 12 are larger than the other contacts to ensure correct insertion of the socket. Each pin may control more than one lamp circuit.
