Abstract
805,693. Cigarettes. ROTHMANS Ltd. Feb. 22, 1956 [Feb. 22, 1955], No. 5318/55. Class 130. Polyvinyl acetate, or polyvinyl chloride which may be plasticized with 25 to 35 per cent by weight of di-octyl phthalate, forms all or part of a sleeve 5 projecting beyond a cigarette mouthpiece 2 and which may extend at least partly thereover and which when heated by the approach of the combustion zone of the tobacco 4 curls inwards to grip the remaining tobacco portion. The mouthpiece 2 is a spiral of cardboard and may be empty or house a filter 6 which may be of cotton wool and may or may not extend to the mouth end of the mouthpiece 2. The position of the end of the sleeve 5 facing the tobacco may be marked by a line imprinted externally on the cigarette paper 1. The cigarette may be completely smoked but will be extinguished if it is discarded after the sleeve 5 has gripped the tobacco. The plastic material is fabricated by calendering or extrusion, or from an emulsion thereof, into sheet form, and may be used as the sleeve 5 alone or in combination with a paper sheet outer backing to which it is laminated by heat sealing or an adhesive. The plasticizer may be a fireretardant.
