933,161. Tobacco pipes. J. NOEL-DAVIES. July 13, 1960 [Aug. 1, 1959], No. 26467/59. Class 130. To advance a tobacco charge b, a mouthpiece c containing or consisting of a filter wad d is displaced axially in a holder tube a of stout paper or thin cardboard having on one or both sides a metal foil covering e. The mouthpiece c may be simply pushed forward but, as shown, has a projection c<SP>1</SP> engaging a screw-thread a<SP>1</SP> pressed in the tube a, which may be expendible with each tobacco charge or re-fillable with charges rendered rod-like by spraying or rolling with a binder such as gum tragacanth or gum acacia. The binder may be dispersed throughout the charge or be merely a surface application and may act to cause sufficient charge adhesion to the mouthpiece c to allow charge retraction thereby, the action being optionally assisted by fingers on the mouthpiece c. Filled tubes a may be made by a continuous-rod process. Means may be provided to prevent complete separation of the parts a, c.
