805,646. Arc melting furnaces. TITANIUM METALS CORPORATION OF AMERICA. July 26, 1956 [Aug. 22, 1955], No. 23116/56. Class 39(3) [Also in Group II] A crucible for melting metal in an arc furnace 16 comprises inner and outer shells 20, 10 separated by a liquid cooling space 36, and a space 24 for inert gas (helium or argon) underlying portion of the inner surface of the inner shell. The space 24 may comprise an internal integral helical duct, and an ionization type of vacuum gauge may be provided to indicate any leakage of helium.
