Abstract

805,284. Rectifier devices. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Sept. 11, 1956 [Sept. 14, 1955], No. 26321/55. Class 37. In a rectifier assembly, silicon diodes 13, 14, 15, 16 (Fig. 1), are mounted on copper or aluminium cooling plates 2, 3, 4, 5, respectively, the square shanks of the diodes being secured in apertures 20 (Fig. 5), in the plates by nuts 19 on threaded bolts 17 which effect electrical connections between cathodes and plates, and each diode protrudes through a circular aperture 21 in the adjacent plate 1, 2, 3 or 4, an anode lead 18 from each diode being connected to one of terminals 9-12 which are insulatedly clamped to the assembly on one or other alternately of two tiebolts 6 which also insulatedly secure the plates in position, the ends of the terminals projecting above the plates and being insulatedly clamped in alignment by a third tiebolt 24. The diodes may be connected in series by means of metal sleeves 33 clamped between appropriate plates and terminals ; a parallel connection arrangement is achieved by interconnecting terminal extensions 22 which are located at opposite sides of adjacent plates, and by interconnecting terminals 9-12, alternate terminals being, if desired, of the modified shape shown in Fig. 7, to enable interconnection to be effected with one bus-bar. Other methods of connecting the diodes inter se, and the location of apertures 20 and 21 in the plates, are described.
