Abstract

804,901. Electric tests. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. March 20, 1956 [April 1, 1955], No. 8699/56. Class 37. [Also in Group XL (c)] In a system in which the depth of a liquid in a tank is arranged to vary the overall capacitance of a bridge circuit the bridge is associated with an inductance to form part of an oscillatory circuit the bridge output being connected to an output circuit. This arrangement is said to avoid the usual coupling between the oscillator and bridge circuits. As shown the oscillator comprises a triode 11 having a piezo crystal 15 and resistor 16 in its grid circuit its plate being connected through inductance 19 and resistor 21 to the supply. In parallel with inductance is a bridge circuit consisting of condensers 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28 and a trimming condenser 29. Condenser 28 may be as described in Specification 803,099 in which it is used for measuring the level of liquid oxygen in a container. The Specification states that the various capacitances involved are so chosen that the oscillator operates approximately mid-way between its resonant frequency and the second harmonic over a frequency range at which the input current to the bridge circuit is approximately constant. The output circuits connected across bridge diagonal II-IV comprises a double diode rectifier 32, smoothing condensers 44, 45, ammeter 24 and calibrating potentiometer 36.
