Abstract

513,771. Electric tests. WAYMOUTH, H., and WAYMOUTH GAUGES & INSTRUMENTS, Ltd. April 19, 1938, No. 30521. Divided out of 513,754. [Class 37] A liquid volume indicator of the variable capacitance type comprises one or more parts of condenser plates 13, 14, which may be spaced edge-to-edge lengthwise of the liquid container, the arrangement minimising errors in reading when the container is tilted. In order to maintain a-linear relationship between volume of liquid and condenser plate area immersed, the plates are non-uniformly perforated and/or non-uniformly spaced apart. Fig. 3 shows an indicator circuit comprising an oscillator connected to an amplifier-detector through a filter circuit 38...40. The liquid container is shown at 10, and variations of the capacitance with liquid volume allow the oscillator current to pass the filter circuit and energize the indicator coil 48. This coil is mechanically coupled with a core 52, movement of which restores the normal cut-off frequency relationship between the filter and oscillator. Reference is made to the use of this invention on aircraft.
