In a brush or mop with an elongated handle 7, e.g. for washing crockery, &c., the brush or mop head 1 and the handle 7 are both carried by a container (not visible in the Figure) which forms with a movable or detachable cover 3 an apertured magazine to hold a detergent dissolvable in the washing liquid by the presence, or presence and movement of the appliance therein. As shown the domed or flat-top apertured cap 3 is detachably secured to the cylindrical container wall by frictional or spring grip (e.g. with slots in the cap edge), screw, bayonet coupling, &c., after insertion of a detergent/sterilizer tablet. The cap 3 may take the form of a second brush or mop head, the apertured junction zone being free of bristles, &c. (according to the Provisional Specification the two heads together may form a sphere). Apertures in the wall of the container, registrable with holes 6 in the cap, may be adjusted partly out of register to limit the effective hole size. The handle 7 may be secured to the container (e.g. formed therewith as an integral synthetic resin moulding), or provided with a ring 8 clamped on the container by the cap. The head or heads may have nylon bristles or multiple fingers of foamed rubber, &c.
