Abstract

804,665. Endless conveyers. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. May 3, 1955 [May 7, 1954], No. 12784/55. Class 78 (1). [Also in Group XL (b)] A conveyer of the belt and pulley type for conveying and counting flat flexible articles comprises first belts 10 gripping articles with cooperating third belts 20 having end pulleys 21 biased, e.g. by springs 24, to move towards said first belts, second belts 25 having a working section intersecting the path of travel of the first belts at an oblique angle and disposed downstream of said end pulleys, and a beam of light 42 projected across the space defined by the first belts, working section, and end pulleys and impinging on a light-sensitive device, so that as the belts are driven, the leading portion of each article is flipped through the light beam on abutment with said working section. In Fig. 1, the belts and pulleys, e.g. 10 and 12, are respectively a series of parallel wires, and rollers with corresponding grooves. The articles, e.g. newspapers, are fed in overlapping or spacedapart relationship between belts 10 and 20. When the leading edge of an article U contacts belt 25, it is flipped sharply downward, to interrupt the beam 42 and actuate a photo-sensitive device (not shown). The leading edge of the article drops on to a short belt 32, which feeds the article between belts 25 and 37, which deliver the article for stacking. The end pulleys 38 of belts 37 are biased towards belts 25 by springs 41. Specification 781,652, [Group XL (b)], is referred to.
