Abstract

1,162,011. Feeding and delivering sheets; endless conveyers. NETHERLANDS, POSTAL & TELECOMMUNICATION SERVICE, DIRECTOR GENERAL OF. 29 Sept., 1966 [5 Oct., 1965], No. 43599/66. Headings B8A and B8R. Apparatus for guiding letters, forms or the like into a receptacle 1 and removing them separately comprises, toothed or grooved conveyer bands 2, 3, 4 on both the bottom and one closed side of the receptacle and which are driven and stopped simultaneously as determined by the pressure exerted by the front or removing end of the stack. When the pressure in the receptacle is light, a feeler 5 pivots clockwise, Fig. 1, and a switch is closed to cause the belts 2, 3, 4 to be driven. A second feeler at the rear of the stack allows the stack feeding device 21 to move backwardly if pressure demands. This is done by a motor and a toothed wheel 23 which fit in the teeth of a conveyer band 4. The letters are removed from the receptacle one-by-one by a centrally grooved removing belt 7 driven continuously by pulleys 8, 9. Pulley 8 is on a fixed axis, but pulley 9 may swing about the axis of pulley 8 by the operation of a magnet 10 which is operated when the leading edge of the letter is sensed by photoelectric device 11, 12. The letter is, at this moment, between the pulley 8 and a feed roller, so it continues to be fed, but since the pulley 9 has been swung away a further letter cannot feed out. When the first letter is detected by a second sensing device, i.e. photo-electric cell 16, a lock 17 is actuated. This lock comprises a roller 14 between two arms of a fork 17 pivoted at 19 and actuated by an electromagnet 18. Actuation of the lock ensures that the first letter is fed by the rollers 13, 14 but a second letter is locked by the arms (17, Fig. 3, not shown) of the lock. When the first letter passes the second sensing device 15, 16 the lock is reopened. Opposite the removing belt 7 and at the side in which the letters are removed is a separating device 20 comprising three blocks 31, 32, 33. The middle block is smooth with a projecting rib and the outer blocks 31, 33 are of high friction material and spaced a little forward of the block 32 to effect a slight bowing of the letters.
