Abstract
804,530. Prestressed concrete. STRESSTEEL CORPORATION. Sept. 21, 1956 [Sept. 22, 1955; Sept. 5, 1956], No. 28903/56. Class 20(4) '[Also in Group XXV] A wedge and anchor plate assembly comprises a plate with a tapered hole passing completely therethrough, a circular wedge for anchoring a bar adapted to snugly grip the bar and having an external taper complementary with the taper of the hole in the plate, frictional means on the inside surface of the wedge for gripping the bar, the body of the wedge being of material this enough to deform to the peripheral shape of the bar as it is seated and at the same time to deform longitudinally with changes in length of the bar in that portion of the bar contained within the wedge as it is subject to changing tension, the external taper of the wedge being between 8 and 12 degrees. In the arrangement according to Fig. 1 an anchor plate 14 disposed in a recess in a concrete object 12 is provided with a tapered bore 16 to receive a wedge 30. A pre-stressing bar 18 passes through the wedge into the object 12 and after tensioning by a known form of piston assembly (not shown), is anchored by the wedge which is driven home by a screw jack 28. The wedge is slotted longitudinally and is formed on its inner surface with teeth 34 which bite into the bar 18. Preferably the taper angle of the wedge and the hole in the plate 14 is 10 degrees. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the inner end of the bar-engaging surface of the wedge is formed with threads which allow the wedge to be slipped on the bar, but prevent it being removed. The opposite end of the bar may also be anchored by the wedgeplate assembly described above. In another arrangement. Figs. 5 and 6, a wedge 42, adapted to be seated, in a pulling head or plate 41 by a jack 40, consists of three sections 42a, 42b, 42c held in alignment by a spring ring 44. The head 41 comprises a head 52 provided with an extension 48 which engages an opening in the jack 40.
