804,520. Friction clutches; reverse gearing. UNTERNEHMUNGEN DER EISEN UND STAHLINDUSTRIE A.G., FUR. Dec. 21, 1956 [Dec. 22, 1955], No. 39076/56. Class 80 (2). Reverse gearing comprises two multi-disc friction clutches 10, 11 alternatively engaged when oil under pressure is supplied to one side or the other 14, 15 of a flange 13, fast with a driven shaft 7 and contained in an axially slidable operating cylinder 12 having hubs 19 engaging presser plates 20, 21. Oil is admitted to the spaces 14, 15 through ducts in the shaft 7, and the axially slidable cylinder 12 is biased to its central position, when both clutches 10, 11 are disengaged, by a pair of springs 22. Lubricating oil is supplied to the discs of the clutches 10, 11 through a shaft duct 27, and escapes through passages 28 in the hubs of gears 5, 6, forming the driving parts of the two clutches, to lubricate bearings 8a, 8i, 9a, 9i supporting the gears directly in the gear case 30.
