Abstract
804,390. Cooling electric motors. BORGWARNER CORPORATION. May 11, 1956 [May 20, 1955], No. 14693/56. Class 35. [Also in Group XXVI] In a motor-driven centrifugal fuel pump adapted to be bolted to the outside of a wall of a fuel tank with the pump inlet 14 protruding through an opening in the wall, a priming pump P withdraws fuel from the discharge of the main pump B and delivers it to the interior of the motor for cooling purposes. After passing through the motor, the fuel returns to the fuel tank by way of a passage 73, a valve 71 which is held open by engagement of its spindle 80 with the wall of the tank, and an opening in the wall which is offset from the spindle 80. If the motor-pump unit is detached from the tank, the spindle 80 springs out to the position shown to close the valve 71 and prevent spillage of fuel from the motor.
