Abstract

804,247. Earth boring drills. PILING & CONSTRUCTION CO., Ltd. Aug. 29, 1956 [Aug. 29, 1955], No. 24707/55. Class 85 A drilling rig mounted on a road vehicle comprises a pump, draw works for the Kelly 30 and a rotary driving table 10 therefor which are driven by the I.C. engine of the vehicle, the draw works being adapted to effect rapid movement of the Kelly and being connected to the swivel 17 thereof. The pump supplies pressure fluid to a reversible hydraulic motor which effects slow raising and lowering of the Kelly through cables 33 which are driven through gearing 24, 25, 26, 25a and 35. The cables 33 incorporate spring connectors 32 each of which consists of a pair of co-axial springs, see Fig. 5 (not shown). The table 10 is slidably mounted in guides on the vehicle and is reciprocated by hydraulic cylinders.
