Abstract

1,249,938. Boring earth and rock. P. J. M. T. ALLARD. 3 Sept., 1969 [13 Sept., 1968], No. 43689/69. Heading E1F. A rotary down-the-hole drill comprises a cylindrical body 10 mounted on a non-rotatable rod 11 having a polygonal cross section. The rod is slidable in a corresponding polygonal aperture in a plate fixed to a cranetruck. A bit 22 is rotated by a hydraulic motor 26 fed by a pump 27 driven by an electric motor 28. Drilling mud is., supplied to the bit through a conduit 31 wound on. a drum and supplied froma pump which recirculates drilling mud from the last of a series of settling tanks. Current is supplied to the .electric motor via a cable: 29 which is also wound on the drum. A fluid actuated thrust device may act on the rod 11 to force the tool into the ground.
