Abstract

1334595 Subaqueous earthworking equipment ZAIDAN HOJIN KIKAI SHINKO KYOKAI 19 April 1971 [20 April 1970 28 April 1970] 9893/71 Heading E1F [Also in Division B7] A subaqueous work vehicle system includes a mobile control station having life-support means for divers and connected for power supply and control to a sea-level base station and to individual subaqueous vehicles. Examples of individual vehicles are a measuring robot 10, an earth boring unit 11, a pile driver 12, a power shovel 13, a pump-type dredger 14 and a manipulator unit 15. The mobile station 4 may be provided with a remote control arm 4a, e.g. for sample collection. Control from the mobile station 4 is such that any combination of vehicles can be actuated simultaneously. Alternatively, control may be from a support ship 6 or there may be direct control of individual vehicles by divers, the divers being in communication with the mobile station. Visual display screens at the mobile station 4 and ship 6 facilitate control of operations. The power source may be at a land station 1. According to the condition of the sea-bed, the vehicles are provided with screw-type propulsion arrangements, crawlers, or ratchet-type wheels. Hydraulic drives for the propulsion arrangements are described. The mobile station 4 may have control, machine and divers' rooms, the first two being maintained at atmospheric pressure.
