Abstract

1,105,701. Earthboring. HYDRAULIC DRILLING EQUIPMENT Ltd. 1, March, 1966 [15, Jan., 1965], No. 1822/65. Heading E1F. A drilling unit for lowering into a borehole has means 10 for attaching a drill bit which may be rotated by a telescopic stem 9 driven by motors 5, and pads 24 mounted on pivoted arms 16 which extend radially of the borehole so that the pads engage the borehole wall to anchor the unit. The attaching means 10 is mounted on a bridge 13 which may be lowered with respect to the pads by means of rams 14 and piston rods 15 to feed the bit. There are three pairs of arms 16 and there may be a pad to each arm or one larger pad to each pair of arms, movement of the arms being by means of links (20), levers (19) and rams 23. The bit may be an auger or bucket.
