Class 120(1) An apparatus for removing waste from the card clothing on rotatable drums in carding machines comprises a toothed cylinder 1, Fig. 3, mounted for rotation in a housing 6 with a slot 7 uncovering an arcuate portion of the cylinder and extending along the whole length thereof, the cylinder being driven by a compressed air turbine mounted in the housing. The turbine rotor 17 is connected by gears 12, 10 to the cylinder. Air is supplied to the turbine through a duct 20, Fig. 1, and is discharged into a conduit 24. Extending along one margin of slot 7 and opening into the slot by means of a narrow orifice extending along the length of the slot. Adjacent the opposite margin of the slot, casing 6 communicates with a suction hopper 26 connected by a conduit 27 to a suction fan (not shown). In operation, the apparatus is held by a handle 41 and duct 20 against a moving card drum with sliders 28, 29 in contact with the clothing. The drum teeth 5 remove the card waste and throw it towards suction hopper 26; discharge of the waste is aided by the turbine discharge air which flows across slot 7 in the direction of rotation of teeth 5. The depth of engagement of teeth 5 with the card clothing is controlled by adjustment of slider 29 by means of eccentrics 44, 45 operated by a handwheel 42.
