Abstract

802.679. Vehicle power steering. HYDROSTEER, Ltd. Sept. 30, 1955 [Oct. 1, 1954], No. 28354/54. Class 79(5) In a power-assisted steering gear the drop arm 4 is coupled to an idler arm 10 by a link 11 comprising two relatively movable parts of a fluid control valve 12 and a track rod section 5 is pivotally connected at 9 to the idler arm 10 and at 8 to a supplementary arm 17 pivotally mounted on the drop arm 4. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the arm 17 is carried by a rubber bush 19<SP>1</SP> on the drop arm 4, and the section 5 is connected by end sections 6, 7 to the steerable wheels (not shown). In operation rotation of the column 2 causes compression of the bush 19<SP>1</SP> to actuate the valve 12 for power injection into the gear at a suitable point (not shown). In a modification, Fig. 4, the arm 17 is carried by a boss 20 on the arm 4 so that the arms 4, 17 are pivotable about the same axis.
