Classes 120(1) and 120(2) A sliver feed control arrangement for drawing apparatus consists of means for measuring the amount of material passing a feed roller and connected to pulleys movable in response to changes in the material thickness, a cable passing alternately over the movable pulleys and over fixed pulleys and being connected to a speed regulating device. A non-linear correcting device is interposed in the cable transmission. Each sliver 5 fed to the apparatus passes into the groove of a roller 82 and is compressed therein by a follower roller mounted on a pivoted arm 108 that carries a pulley 118 at its outer end. Each arm 108 is spring- loaded to maintain pressure on the slivers. A length of flexible cable 134 passes alternately over the pulleys 118 and over fixed pulleys. One end of the cable is looped upon itself and the other end is weighted. Rocking the arms 108 according to variations in sliver thickness results in cable movements by which a change speed device 100 is controlled. The device 100 receives motion through gearing from a motor 36 and transmits drive to the rollers 82 through a shaft 98, chain 96 and a shaft 84. Because of a non-linear function between sliver thickness and feed roller speeds, a correcting device is provided. This may take up the form of an eccentrically slotted disc rotated by the cable and with which a lever co-operates that controls the change speed device 100, or the cable may be divided with an eccentric segment interposed.
