Classes 44 and 89(1) [Also in Group XIV] In a combination of a member 14 having an internally threaded cavity 16, and a fastening device 10 for assembly into the cavity, the fastening device comprises a body part 20 secured to a support 12 and having radially extending resilient fingers 26 at the ends of which are disposed helically to conform with the pitch of the threads 18 in the cavity, the length and angular disposition of the fingers being such that, when the device is screwed into the cavity until the member engages the support, they are flexed so that their effective length is increased thus causing their free ends to exert increased pressure on the threads of the cavity. As described, the fingers 26 are inclined axially toward the base 22 of the body 20, and the finger ends are inclined radially outwards thus forming acute angles 32 with the respective edges 30. The body 20 is attached to the support 12, which may be a panel, by welding bosses 24 or by a bolt passing through an aperture in the base 22. The member 14 which is a knob, is screwed on to the device 10, and when the base of the knob abuts the panel further screwing forces the fingers 26 upwards thus increasing their effective length and causing the points 32 on the trailing edges 30 to bite into the root of the thread and thereby secure the knob to the panel.
